SENSIT & Montrose Launch SPOD Network in TX

Montrose and SENSIT team up with refineries to launch a smart SPOD sensor network—delivering 24/7 leak detection, cleaner air, and stronger community protection.

Montrose Environmental Group has implemented a cutting-edge Leak Detection Sensor Network (LDSN) at major oil refineries, marking a significant step forward in monitoring emissions and regulatory compliance. Leveraging SPOD-based VOC sensors and the company’s proprietary Sensible EDP™ platform, the system continuously tracks emissions in real time while providing automated alerts for elevated levels. This deployment aligns with the EPA’s AMEL (Alternative Means of Emission Limitation) framework, empowering facilities to adopt smarter, tech-driven approaches to leak detection and repair.

The LDSN uses SPOD sensors strategically placed around the refinery to detect leaks 24/7, aggregating data through Sensible EDP™ for rapid response and detailed operational insight. This real-time visibility supports early detection of emissions events, enabling faster interventions and improved maintenance planning. The system also captures historical emissions data, allowing operators to analyze trends and continuously improve performance.

By deploying the LDSN, Montrose and its refinery partners have improved worker safety, reduced emissions, and enhanced air quality for nearby communities. This innovative solution exemplifies the next generation of LDAR programs—automated, continuous, and community-conscious. The integration of SPOD technology ensures facilities can meet both regulatory expectations and environmental responsibilities with confidence.
